National Disability
Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

NDIS The National Disability Insurance Scheme is rolling out in NSW.

What is the National Disability Insurance Scheme?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is the new way of providing support for Australians with disability, their families and carers. The NDIS will eventually replace the current disability support system in New South Wales.

The NDIS will provide about 460,000 Australians under the age of 65 with a permanent and significant disability with the reasonable and necessary supports for their requirements of daily life. As an insurance scheme, the NDIS takes a lifetime approach, investing in people with disability early to improve their outcomes later in life.

The NDIS is not means tested and has no impact on income support such as the Disability Support Pension and Carers Allowance.

The Scheme will provide individually funded packages of support for eligible people with disability. The NDIS aims to give people with disability, their families and carers more choice and control over the support they receive. The NDIS can pay for supports  for many areas impacted by the disability in a person’s life.
